Sgt. Herman B. Rellar (Ret.) has been a lifelong motorcycle rider who helped to form the Motorcycle Traffic Safety Unit for the Contra Costa Co. Office of the Sheriff back in 1997. Sergeant Rellar entered law enforcement with a local police agency in 1956 and moved to the Office of the Sheriff in 1959. During his career, Sgt. Rellar's assignments included the then contract city of Pleasant Hill, Director of Reserves, Patrol Sergeant, Coroners Investigator, Criminal Investigator, Polygraph Examiner and Detention Division. Sgt. Rellar has been an instructor at the local regional police academy since 1965. He retired in 1986 and joined the reserve force as a Reserve Deputy. Deputy Rellar is assigned to the town of Danvill and the Contra Costa Co. motorcycle unit.
